Over the past couple decades, much has been written about the popularity of Seattle as a growing, hip, west coast power-city. Unfortunately, with that growth came skyrocketing housing costs, traffic congestion and a soaring crime rate. For all those reasons, young families have been flocking to neighboring Pierce County to put down roots in Puyallup. It’s a town that is able to offer all the amenities, including great retail.
Right in the heart of it all is South Hill Mall, located (of course) in Puyallup’s growing South Hill neighborhood. With an ever-evolving mix of offerings and easy highway access via State Route 512 from Seattle, Tacoma and points south, the mall is experiencing a new popularity. Among the nearly 100 businesses at the mall complex, there’s plenty of variety. It’s anchored by Macy’s, Target, JCPenney, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Old Navy, DSW and H&M. Beyond that, visitors are able to choose from a tremendous array of smaller retailers, many of them locally-owned and offering their own special vibe.
Entertainment and hospitality play a large part in what attracts local families to South Hill Mall. In addition to a soft-play area for smaller children, there’s also the Super Jump Party Zone, Play Live, Wiggle Works Kids and a Regal Cinemas movie theater. In 2022, Round 1 Entertainment enters the mix, offering a massive array of arcade games, full-size bowling lanes, karaoke party rooms, food and adult beverages. Add this to the 20-or-so other eateries at the complex and you can understand South Hill Mall’s appeal.
